Hakinakina Programme
Empowering tamariki through sports and physical and cultural activities. We believe that taitamariki from any background have the opportunity to reach their sporting and personal goals.
#HĀKINAKINA To Learn, To Grow, To Succeed
Mauri tū mauri ora. An active soul is a healthy soul.
What is the Hakinakina Programme?
Our Champions Programme provides a safe and nurturing environment to build excellence in Sport and Education for tamariki aged between 8 and 14 years.Developed in 2015 the overarching objective of our programme is to teach strong work ethics within a kaupapa Māori model of practice, with sports as the tool to motivation. This in turn enables taitamariki from all backgrounds the opportunity to excel in education and sport.
Our aims are:
- To operate a programme that constantly challenges our taitamariki to set goals and work towards achieving them.
- To enhance students’ wellbeing through the 13 virtues of Ngāpuhi.
- To demonstrate the value of good work ethics in the sporting arena.
Who is the programme for?
Our Champions Programme provides a safe and nurturing environment to build excellence in Sport and Education for tamariki aged between 8 and 14 years.
Goals of the Hakinakina Programme
- Identifying young athletes and whānau with the desire and commitment to reach their goals.
- Providing academic and sporting pathways for our taitamariki.
- Creating an environment where Māori values and success are the culture.
Why the Programme is important
There is a dangerous trend of non-active tamariki and their whanau in Aotearoa and it is our goal to turn this trend around.
Who teaches the programme?
Marcelle will be the main trainer of your tamariki. Marcelle has been an active member in and around the Otangarei community all his life and is a staunch supporter of the Otangarei City Rugby Club. He is dedicated to helping our whānau and taitamariki to strive for and achieve their sporting and fitness goals through participation and action.
